Phototherapy

Phototherapy harnesses the photochemical properties of blue light at 460 nm to photo-isomerise unconjugated bilirubin, converting it into water-soluble forms that can be eliminated without hepatic conjugation.

  • Blue Light Emission
The BiliCocoon® delivers irradiance at 460 nm, the wavelength of maximum bilirubin absorption.
  • Skin Absorption
Light penetrates the first two millimetres of the dermis and interacts with tissue bilirubin.
  • Bilirubin Breakdown
Bilirubin is transformed into water-soluble compounds and naturally eliminated.

Indications for Phototherapy

Treatment of neonatal jaundice (unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia)

BiliCocoon® is indicated for term and preterm newborns presenting unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia requiring phototherapy.

  • Physiological or pathological jaundice
  • Term and preterm newborns
  • As a complement
    to clinical follow-up
  • Usable in neonatology and at home*
  • Preservation of the parent-child
    bond from the earliest hours

Benefits of Phototherapy

  • Controlled and homogeneous irradiance
    Uniform coverage for optimal efficacy
  • Effective bilirubin breakdown
    Rapid reduction of unconjugated bilirubin
  • Clinically validated parameters
    Consistent, reproducible performance
  • Maximum safety
Targeted blue light, no UV, no infrared
  • Comfort and bonding preserved
Treatment without separation, skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding possible
  • authorized as of June 30, 2025
